Frank Capra’s film was the first to win the Top 5 Oscars with Capra capturing Best Director, Clark Gable winning Best Actor, Claudette Colbert winning Best Actress, and Robert Riskin winning Best Adapted Screenplay to go along with Best Picture. It Happened One Night created the Romantic Comedy genre and has yet to be matched by any of its predecessors.
