At this time, a total of nine men have come forward against Kevin Spacey, a two-time Oscar winner, decorated Broadway and theater vet, and the (now former) star of Netflix’s House of Cards. All the men, including one who was a minor at the time, said that they met Spacey for professional reasons, but instead became targets for inappropriate sexual conduct. Their stories reveal that this pattern of behavior goes back decades.
The Future of House of Cards
In light of these allegations, Netflix has issued an ultimatum regarding original series, House of Cards. Netflix said they will no longer be involved in the series if it continues to include Spacey. They have also cut ties with an upcoming movie that was set to feature Spacey.
“Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey,” it said. “We will continue to work with MRC during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show. We have also decided we will not be moving forward with the release of the film Gore, which was in post-production, starring and produced by Kevin Spacey.”
House of Cards production company, Media Rights Capital, said Spacey has been suspended from the set and hopes to continue to partner with Netflix in the series. MRC said,“While we continue the ongoing investigation into the serious allegations concerning Kevin Spacey’s behavior on the set of House of Cards, he has been suspended, effective immediately. MRC, in partnership with Netflix, will continue to evaluate a creative path forward for the program during the hiatus.”
